Moss Roses.
According to Botanica Encylopedia of Roses, Moss roses are really aberrant centifolia roses which appeard in teh mid-seventeenth century. They have a mossy excrescence on the stems and the sepals. Many bloom just once per season but some do repeat.



  Louis Gimard
Louis Gimard was developed by Pernet in France in 1877 and is one of the non recurrent Moss Roses. The flowers are arranged in tight clusters, emerging from mossy buds in mid summer. Full and double they reach up to 3 inches in size. The blooms are a rich cerise brushed and highlighted magenta and pink. The stems are study and covered with purplish mossy stubble.


Communis
One of the best moss roses Communis appeared in France pre 1700. It is bushy, dense and upright growing up to 4 feet in height. The stems are well mossed and dark green. Full double flowers emerge from mossy buds in a rich deep pink with strong fragrance often quartered with a button eye.





Great Maidens Blush
Albas are also known as White Roses and are all once blooming and fragrant. The blush pink blooms can be damaged by thripes and wet weather. Like all Albas the foliage is grayish blue-green. This fine old roses is circa 1400.
